"The Concrete Repair Association (CRA), as a member of the Structural Concrete Alliance, has been instrumental in developing a Level 2 NVQ Qualification in Concrete Repairs. In order to enable candidates to achieve this qualification and to train assessors to deliver it, several suitable sites employing candidates in concrete repair activities were required.

The site where Contract R193 was being undertaken by Currall Lewis and Martin (CLM), a CRA member company working for Kier Construction on behalf of Highways England, was deemed appropriate. Two trainee assessors from CRA member companies used two concrete repair operatives from the CLM workforce as their candidates. The site, being well set up and organised with all the necessary facilities, easily enabled the trainee assessors to gather the required evidence in both knowledge and practical skills related to the concrete repair process, to satisfy the requirements of the NVQ.

At the time of writing, one of the trainee assessors, Karl Stevenson, Site Manager at CLM, has successfully achieved his assessor qualification by helping his two candidates achieve their Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Specialist Concrete Occupations (Construction) - Concrete Repair Qualification. Meanwhile, the other trainee assessor, Steve Richards, Business Systems Manager at Resapol (a CRA member company), is in the final stages of compiling the evidence of competency required for his candidates to achieve the qualification."

"CLM worked alongside us at Dudley College of Technology to offer and mentor one of the T-Level Design surveying and planning students Nathan, with a 315-hour meaningful Industry experience.

T-Levels are technical based qualifications developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets of industry and prepares students for work or further training.

This gave Nathan an amazing opportunity to shadow the Design and Engineers teams, learning and experiencing all aspects and different roles throughout the placement.

The commitment support and total professionalism for all involved at CLM given to both Nathan and the industry placement team here at Dudley College throughout the placement was exceptional.

This project has empowered Nathan to see what it is really like in the workplace, giving him the chance to learn and develop new and existing academic skills whilst also building soft skill like communication and teamwork"

Julie Tibbetts, Industry Placement CoOrdinator, Dudley College of Technology

"FOSROC Renderoc Flowable Micro-Concrete

We are always looking for ways to develop and evolve our products to meet market demands.

This was an excellent example of product development in partnership with one of our specialist contractor customers to meet a specific market need.

This extension of the product use will enable us to now look at further work within the highways sector as well as other areas such as flowable repairs required in tidal marine areas.”
