Emergency packing and temporary restraint system works
CLM 200.1
When the street lights went out on the East Way Bridge serving the NEC it was discovered that the bridge had slipped approximately 200mm off line at the east abutment expansion joint which had severed the cables within the footway.
The bridge was closed and CLM were called in to assess the situation and deliver the initial emergency works which involved the installation of “off the shelf” support packing and restraint system to limit any further movement until a bespoke temporary solution was developed.
CLM, KIER and HE worked closely together to produce a solution which included installing bespoke packing at each bearing location, realignment of the ducting, installation of the bespoke restraint system, joint replacement, kerb realignment, temporary access cover installation, drainage repairs and localised re-surfacing.
The job was successfully completed and the bridge re-opened on time in readiness to serve the NEC’s programmed Christmas events.
